Lights, Camera Induction!

In our induction this week we learned about how to set up a 3 point lighting set-up in order to light an interviewee in a dark setting using a main light, a key light and a hair light.

Using artificial lighting means you have all the control over how the interviewee is portrayed through the lens, a low angle can come off as ominous however even lighting at a high angle can make them look more appealing. Shaping the light is the best way to set the emotion.

Having extra light on your subject can make it easier to expose them correctly in a dark scene meaning you don’t have to push your camera, this will give you better colours and detail.

Experimenting with coloured lights in this induction was fun as it brought be back to colour theory, choosing a colour with the emotion that you want to convey.
