No idea im just the sound guy…

In our lecture this week we were learning how to use sound equipment and perfecting our interview shots.

Sound equipment is comprised of 4 main components; the microphone, the boom pole, zoom recorder and the XLR sound cable that connects them. Now, with these you’ll have a working boom mic, headphones are recommended as you need to be able to hear what your recording as well as a dead cat on the mic if it is windy as this will help with the unwanted noise.

As I was recording sound for most of this I didn’t get to film but I did help with composition of the shots. We practised framing up a MS (Mid-Shot) first and I have included that below, then a MCU (Mid-Close-Up) over the shoulder. filming over the shoulder left a lot to be desired so I think I need to read up on filming in front of and behind the line and where they are applicable.

Key things we needed to keep and eye on while filming: (noted from today)

  • frame clutter

  • negative space

  • angle of camera

  • roads!
