Finding The Balance.
This week we have had an in-depth look at how to properly expose our cameras as well as how to set the white balance manually.
Setting the exposure using the exposure triangle, Shutter speed (e.g 1/125 sec.) Aperture (e.g f/5.6) and ISO (e.g ISO-50). Find the balance between these three key features of your camera and you’ll find a well exposed image in your view finder!
I may have already known about exposure but I did learn that white balance is expressed in kelvin. A low kelvin value (e.g., candlelight:1800K, tungsten bulb:2800K) will give you a warm, orange tinted image and a high kelvin value (e.g., daylight shade:7000K, cloudy sky:6000K+) will be a much cooler image with a blue hue.
Alongside learning this we were framing our subjects properly for this practical exercise and setting up the cameras and tri-pods ourselves so we can get familiar with the uni’s equipment. Learning to use other equipment will be hard for me as I tend to attach myself to things, my camera for example I worked hard to pay for and I want to use it, but using other gear will give me more a more varied skill set when it comes to working in the real world.
